How To Transfer Your Domain to Sparrow Hosting

Unlocked padlock

Step 1: Unlock Your Domain

You may find that your current registrar has locked your domain so it cannot be transferred out (this is a security measure)

The first step of transferring your domain name is to unlock your domain by contacting your current registrar and asking them to unlock it for you or you can usually do this yourself from your registrars control panel.

Step 2: Check The Domains Administrative Email Account

The administrative e-mail address is an e-mail that your registrar uses for the domain registration (usually the e-mail address you gave during domain or account registration)

When you request a domain transfer, you will get an e-mail sent to your administrative e-mail account which asks you to approve the transfer. You should make sure you have access to this e-mail account before proceeding with a domain transfer.

You can check your current domain administrative e-mail address by performing a WHOIS search at a website like: http://who.is/

If you find that your administrative e-mail address is one that you do not have access to then you should contact your current registrar and ask them to change it to an e-mail account that you do have access to.

Step 3: Get Your Transfer Authorisation Code

Once you have approved the transfer via the email you received (mentioned in step 2) you will usually be asked to enter an authorisation (auth) or sometimes referred to as EPP code. If you are stuck and do not know your auth code you should contact your current registrar.

Authorisation codes are case sensitive so be sure you copy it correctly to avoid transfer failure.

Step 4: Remove Domain Privacy (If Applicable)

Having domain privacy often gets in the way and causes a transfer to fail. The main reason for this is because the administrative contact email is also hidden and replaced by the privacy companies instead. It is a good idea to remove or disable the domain privacy before you initiate the transfer.

Step 5: Initiate The Transfer

Once you have completed steps 1-4 your domain will be ready to transfer to another registrar. You can move your domain name to Sparrow Hosting by using the Transfer Domain box at the top of this page. Once you have completed the domain transfer at our end you should get an e-mail to your administrative email address with the final steps to starting the transfer.
